About the Film
The Next Chapter follows a group of people navigating the second half of life who refused to accept that their best days were behind them. Carrying the weight of depression, anxiety, grief, and long-unresolved pain, they stepped into the world of psilocybin-assisted therapy in search of something they had nearly stopped believing in: the possibility of healing. This is not a film about a treatment. It is a deeply personal story about courage, vulnerability, and what it means to begin again.

Meet the Panelists
Scott Paul Wright — Filmmaker, The Next Chapter
Scott Paul Wright is a filmmaker, writer, and producer whose work has consistently explored the human story behind larger subjects. With The Next Chapter, the subject is also personal — Wright came to psilocybin through his own experience at 68, reflecting the life stage of many of the people featured in the film. He joins us live for this Vancouver premiere.
Kenneth Tupper — Ph.D., Public Health Policy Consultant, Educator
Kenneth Tupper, Ph.D., is a public health policy consultant, scholar, educator, and host of the podcast Intonicated. An Adjunct Professor with both the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria, as well as former senior leader with the BC Ministry of Health, his work explores how psychedelics can foster learning, healing, and human flourishing across the lifespan. Drawing on decades of policy experience and his research on entheogenic education, Kenneth offers a thoughtful voice on why many older adults are turning to psychedelics to heal long-held childhood trauma, family conditioning, and patterns that no longer serve them. Wes Taylor (Moderator) — Psychotherapist, Educator
Wes Taylor is a psychotherapist, educator, and leader with more than four decades of experience in healing and professional development. A foundational member of the Roots to Thrive team, he helps lead RTT’s Professional Experiential Training program, supporting the development of psychedelic-assisted therapy practitioners. Wes was an instructor in Vancouver Island University’s Psychedelic-assisted Therapy Graduate Certificate program and has contributed to the advancement of experiential psychedelic training in Canada. Drawing on extensive experience in trauma recovery, addiction treatment, and transformational learning, he is committed to fostering ethical, relational, and evidence-informed psychedelic care and practitioner development. Respectfully living on unceded Snuneymuxw territory, Wes is also serving as Director of AVI Health and Community Services.
Helen Watler — Energy Practitioner, EFT Practitioner
Helen is an Eden Method Advanced Practitioner, and an Accredited Advanced EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques/Tapping) Practitioner. She maintains a private practice and serves as an Energy Practitioner with Roots to Thrive, where energy medicine is integrated into psychedelic-assisted therapy programs.
Through her work, Helen has supported clients in addressing trauma, emotional dysregulation, and long-held behavioral patterns. She has witnessed significant transformation in participants engaged in psychedelic-assisted healing and is inspired by the boldness and courage of older adults participating in this work. Helen loves this work for its ability to increase our capacity to hold consciousness.
